How to sauté Napa cabbage

ChihYu Smith

Sauteed Napa cabbage with shiitake is an easy side dish with sweet Chinese cabbage, ginger, and garlic tossed in a simple garlic sauce.

Let’s get started!

Slice the Cabbage

01

Cut the Napa cabbage into quarters. Dice the stems into 1.5-inch pieces and the leaves into larger, 2.5-inch pieces. Rinse and drain well.

Stems first

02

Heat a large pan with oil. Add minced ginger and garlic and cabbage stems for 1 minute then add the leafy parts. Sauté until they start to soften and wilt.

Incorporate Leaves

03

Add the leafy parts of the cabbage to the pan, continuing to sauté for 1 to 1.5 minutes until they start to soften and wilt.

Finishing Touches

04

Stir in a starch slurry to thicken the sauce, cooking everything together for another minute before turning off the heat.
